As my knowledge grows every day about the world around me, and the music in it that keeps us going, I wanted to have a little place for tribute, a place to keep my mark. I decided to have my own public domain, where my online friends(and others) could come to ‘chill out’ and ‘hang loose’ and be our normal lunatic selves.
I chose the name ‘Phantom Faces’ after the lyrics from the mournful and gorgeous song from Les Miserables(the musical) called “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables”, which Marius sings after his friends died in the really saddening battle scene. Here’s a snippet of it.
“Phantom faces at the window.
Phantom shadows on the floor.
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will meet no more.
Oh my friends, my friends, don’t ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will sing no more.”
I thought this part really captured a significant moment, and the loyalty and grief of losing friends was so poetic and RIGHT for me and my site, I thought it perfect.(Also because most of the other cool names were taken)
Phantom Faces started as just a forum, but since I was paying for hosting(not very much, but still…writers don’t get paid much until they finish the novel), I decided to pan out the site, with a nice little intro area that is our ‘Home’ page.
Then I thought – well, I have plenty of space, why not use it? So I added my fanfiction(which, I’ll boast, looks totally cool on my black-with-a-creepy-pic background), then added this little bio. I hope to get more stuff up later, like my graphic works, a link to my very brain dead ‘sticky’ slides, and maybe…erm…even voice clips. Of myself. Singing karaoke. Yeah…
People on the forums have called Phantom Faces a haven from the hustle and bustle of mainstream sites, and our loverly Mod is my sister, who is very passionate, but very good at what she does. I am chief Admin, and try my best to be fair to everyone.
